Thanksgiving 2025
Food, Football, Gratitude
Today is one of the most American of holidays, Thanksgiving. Often overlooked as just a precursor to Christmas, Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Thanksgiving is usually known for its food and football, which I genuinely enjoy, but it’s also an opportunity to pause and appreciate what we’re grateful for. This is often focused on family and friends, but this year I want to include several other groups that are special to me.
First, our military. Without you, we would not be free. There could be no WAHM because I may not have the right to say what I want. Without you and your families, much of American history would not exist. So, for you, the American service person, I say THANK YOU. My work is as much for you as about you.
Next, first responders, ALL of you. LEOs, Fire, EMS, dispatchers, nurses, and all the rest, too numerous to name. My father, brother, and I have collectively served over 70 years in law enforcement, so we know what you do and go through every day. We know what a sacrifice it is to be away from home so that our fellow Americans can enjoy a day (hopefully one of peace and tranquility) with their families. To you, my brothers and sisters in blue, I say THANK YOU, and we SEE you.
I know we have Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day, and National Police and Fire Week, but these Americans deserve so much more. For all you do, I say THANK YOU and STAY STRONG!! You are our finest Americans, and YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Asking for help is NOT a sign of weakness, but of STRENGTH! Reach out to those around you so they can honor your sacrifices by helping you keep doing what you are called to do. We are stronger TOGETHER!
Lastly, I am thankful to readers like you. Those who subscribe and read what I write here help me continue doing something I am passionate about. Just knowing I am heard, whether you agree with me or not, makes me thankful for you. So, on this day of thankfulness, I say it is you, all my fellow Americans, who are…
…Why American History Matters.
Gobble, gobble!
